I'm Sher Nawaz Khan Mohammadi.
Living in Clarkston, GA, US
On December 3, 2024, my family and I arrived in the United States through the P2 Program, after spending one month in a camp in Qatar. When we landed at the airport in Georgia, staff from IOM welcomed us and completed our entry processing right there at the airport.
Outside, an IRC staff member and a vehicle were waiting for us. They took us to a hotel, provided us with a room, and delivered a week’s worth of food supplies.
The next morning, IRC assigned us a kind and professional case worker, Ms. Angal chin. He helped us apply for our Social Security Cards, EBT, Medicaid and Work Permits. He also gave us important guidance about living and working in the U.S.
A week later, we went to the IRC office for Cultural Orientation training. After staying two weeks at the hotel, we were relocated to a rental home arranged by IRC. Through the RMP (Reception and Placement) program, we received cash assistance, help with rent, and transportation cards. They also enrolled us in an English language program.
When we started the Matching Grant program, IRC supported us with monthly financial assistance. They showed us places where we could get free winter clothing and helped with transportation for shopping and medical appointments. They assisted in enrolling our children in school and even arranged for the free evaluation of my educational documents — a crucial step toward rebuilding my professional future.
At first, we thought maybe only Mr. Shahabuddin would be kind and helpful, but we quickly realized that all IRC staff are incredibly kind, professional, and compassionate. When Shahabuddin’s assignment ended, we were worried about who would help us next — but then we were introduced to Ms. Ruwan Haqali, a truly dedicated and helpful caseworker who responds promptly to all our questions and needs.
Our first caseworker under the RMP program was a caring woman named Angal Chin. Then Shahabuddin supported us during the Matching Grant phase. Now, we are supported by Ruwan Haqali, and we have had a great experience with all three.
IRC even provided us with free mobile phones and one year of internet access for the whole family. In addition, the Career Development team, especially Sam Camirand, taught us how to create résumés, search for jobs, and apply online. These skills were incredibly helpful in starting our path to employment.
Today, I also had a meeting with the Immigration Department, and I must say — their staff were just as respectful, professional, and helpful. I truly appreciate their support as well.
We are proud to have started our new life with the help of IRC — a life filled with dignity, direction, and human support. We are deeply thankful for all the services, kindness, and encouragement provided by every member of the IRC team.
Thank you, IRC — you didn’t just help us start over, you restored our hope and showed us the true meaning of humanity.
